Our Pastor

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Pedersen

Dr. Charles (Chuck) Pedersen

Chuck's journey of faith really began with a family crisis. His mother was a very active woman in the community. She was a cub scouts leader, active in the little league auxiliary, and enjoyed taking her children shopping, to the beach, and other places. But at the end of Chuck's 4th grade, his mother suffered permanent damage to her spine when the porch railing she was sitting on broke and she fell 15 feet on to the cement driveway. She became very embittered because she could never do the things she enjoyed. Chuck's father turned to alcohol and it soon consumed him resulting in the loss of his job.

The Lord used this tragedy to draw Chuck into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He had been a skeptic and had been very cynical of Christianity especially not being willing to accept the idea that Jesus rose from the dead. Chuck started attending the local community Bible church despite opposition from his parents and siblings. The people of that church showed Chuck the love of Jesus Christ and that he was loved by them and especially by Jesus. Chuck began to critically analyze the resurrection of Jesus and the Holy Spirit broke down Chuck's stubborn unbelieving heart and gave him a new heart of faith and love. As a new believer in high school, Chuck became active in the Bible church and in the Campus Life Christian club at high school. He began to grow in the faith as other believers in the church and at school encouraged and nurtured him in his new found faith.

He soon felt called to the ministry and upon graduation from high school attended a couple of Bible Institutes graduating from Flint Bible Institute in 1975. Chuck was called to pastor the Thetford Community Church that year and served for two years before returning to school to earn a B.S in Social Science, an M.A. in History, and an M.A. in Educational Leadership all from Eastern Michigan University. Chuck began teaching middle school and high school, but always felt the prompting of God to return to the ministry. He took a few classes at the Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary, but finally attended and graduated from what is now Grand Rapids Theological Seminary earning a MTS (Master of Theological Studies) in historical theology in 1992.

Chuck was called to teach at Bethel Christian School in Lancaster in 1991 and during that time served as a middle school/high school teacher, history department chair, guidance counselor, and dean of students. It was also while he was at Bethel that Chuck completed a DRE (Doctor of Religious Education) degree from South Florida Theological Seminary in 1997. In 2000, the Lord led Chuck to move to public school where he taught 6th-8th grades until his retirement in 2016. While teaching at the public school (Cole Middle School), he met and married his wonderful wife, Della and they were married in 2005.

Chuck and Della bought a house in Llano in 2010 and the Lord led them to Littlerock Community Church in 2012 and a year later Chuck became one of the elders. Littlerock Community Church had been a part of the PCUSA (Presbyterian Church USA) but began the process of withdrawing from the PCUSA and affiliating with the more conservative ECO (A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians) which was completed in December of 2015. Chuck served as the liaison representing LCC during this process. Upon completion of this transition, Littlerock Community Church was in need of a pastor and as Chuck was preparing to retire as a teacher, he once again felt the strong calling of God upon his life to return to the pastoral ministry. In June 2016, the Session (Elders) of Littlerock Community Church and Chuck both felt that the timing of this was nothing short of the hand of God and so the Session of Littlerock Community Church asked Chuck to assume all of the pastoral duties which he joyfully accepted. We are now experiencing a great blessing of God as we have seen the addition of both adult and children's Sunday School, a weekly prayer and book study on Saturday morning and several other new ventures. All of this can be summarized in Chuck's life verse from Proverbs 4:25-27 "Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil."(NKJV)
