To know Jesus Christ as Savior and make Him known through: Spirit-filled worship, passionate evangelism, loving fellowship, obedience to scripture, support of worldwide missions, and service to our community.

“Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he/she cannot see the kingdom of God.’” (John 3:3)

"Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he/she cannot see the kingdom of God.’” (John 3:3)

This statement by Jesus is simple, yet extremely profound.  The term “born again” is often used by Christians to express the spiritual transformation that takes place when one becomes a true believer and follower of Jesus Christ.  It became popular in our media in 1976 when Jimmy Carter was elected president and he wrote a book by the title of “born again”.  President Carter expressed in the book his own personal spiritual transformation.

Jesus is responding to Nicodemus in this statement.  He is telling Nicodemus that he must be born again.  It was initially difficult for Nicodemus to understand.  Spiritual truth requires that the Holy Spirit opens up our spiritual minds and hearts in order for us to understand it.  Physical birth is relatively easy.  A child is conceived when a man and a woman come together and a child is conceived.  The child is carried in a mother’s womb for 9 months and then the child is born.

Spiritual birth has some similarities.  The Holy Spirit conceives spiritual seed within our soul.  That seed gives birth to the “New Creation” spoken of 2 Corinthians 5:17.  When a person is born again they are born spiritually and begin to see things through a totally different viewpoint.  They also begin to see things from God’s perspective.

Jesus indicated in this verse that unless one experiences the “born again” experience, they will never see the kingdom of God.  That is why Jesus gave the Great Commission to his disciples to bring the message of Jesus Christ to the whole world.  That is why even today, Christians are bringing the message of salvation all around the world.  May God empower us with the urgency of the message of salvation to everyone that God brings our way today.
