To know Jesus Christ as Savior
and make Him known through: Spirit-filled worship, passionate
evangelism, loving fellowship, obedience to scripture, support of
worldwide missions, and service to our community.
you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth." (Acts 1:8)
This is one of the very last statements made by the risen Jesus just
before He ascended to heaven. It is both a commission and a
prophecy. Jesus had already given the disciples the "Great
Commission" to go into all the world and make disciples, but He know
the hearts of men and women and knew that He had to reinforce what the
"Great Commission" was.
When we become true believers in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to
dwell within our spirit to help and guide us every day. The Holy
Spirit empowers us to do things that we did not think that we were
capable of doing. Our primary mission was and always will be to
be witnesses of who Jesus Christ is and to make disciples of Him, and
the Holy Spirit will empower us to do that task.
It is important to feed the hungry and clothe the needy, but that is
not the primary mission of God's church. In the eternal
perspective, it does little good to feed a person and clothe them, and
give them a better existence in this life, if they are not prepared for
the world to come after they die. So, as we render aid and
assistance to the needy, let us keep in mind that the primary directive
given to us as believers is to share the love of Jesus Christ and the
need of every person to place his or her trust in Jesus Christ.
May God grant us the faith and courage to share God's love and message
of salvation to those we meet today.
